A desire that seems to be hard-wired in us is the need to be part of something bigger than ourselves. A life lived merely for selfish pleasure is a very empty life. Chip and I lived that empty life for a few years after retirement. We eventually felt like we were just waiting to die.
Mark 8:35 “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.”
I want to tell you about something you can be a part of that’s WAY bigger than either of us: Charis Bible Colleges are opening all over the world. Read these giving opportunities and see if any of them “float your boat”.
World Outreach – supports opening new extension schools with interest-free loans for start-up costs. They did this for CHARIS-DC. They also support schools that spread the gospel in economically depressed areas of the world. World Outreach handles administrative and accounting tasks for all the schools, freeing us to concentrate on our students.
CHARIS-Washington DC General Fund – assists directly with our local school needs without having to draw on World Outreach for financial support. For instance the rent we pay is $228/day. I hate that it costs that much but it just does. Donations to the General Fund cover our day-to-day operations, equipment purchases, advertising and future expansions.
CHARIS-DC Mission Fund – sends our second-year students around the globe to spread the gospel and minister the Word. Many missionaries had their start here. Most of the funds for the trip are raised by the students themselves. Ask any CBC graduate what the mission trip did for him or her. You’ll be amazed.
CHARIS-DC Scholarship Fund – helps second year students in financial problems pay their tuition to stay in school. This not for freeloaders but for students who need a hand. The funds are awarded by a board of directors and their supervisors to deserving and dedicated students.
Current CHARIS-DC Student – donations offer encouragement, support and show your love for a particular student who needs assistance with their current tuition. (According to US tax regulations, donations for a specific student are not tax deductible.)
